Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES)

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Bihar is the Principal Statistical Organisation of the State Government and functions as the "Nodal Agency" for all statistical activities in the State. The Directorate also acts as a liaison between the State Government and the Central Government on all statistical matters.

The Directorate plays a vital role in compiling macro parameters for monitoring the State Economy as envisaged under the operational guidelines of the Central Statistical Office, Government of India. It also creates databases for this purpose as well as for existing and emerging data requirements of the State Government and Central Government in Bihar. DES Bihar has special significance as the Office of the Chief Registrar of Birth and Death for Bihar.
